I personally find the M. for L. swap hard to believe in any form.  It's
a classic whodonit plot.  For a thorough debunking of its form see
"The Simple Art of Murder" by Raymond Chandler.

I continue my contention that this is a normal crime with normal criminals,
which is why it such a good show.  The plot is not as important as what the
plot reveals about human nature.
